Extending the language of the Gravity Bowl series, the Gravity Sconce explores the same tension between weight and suspension but this time through light. Each piece is cast from white bronze, shaped by hundreds of droplets patiently accumulated by hand, as if gravity itself were momentarily suspended. At its center, an ovoid slit formed by the flow of metal reveals a soft, diffused light. This opening is veiled with Kozo, a traditional Japanese paper that acts as a natural and delicate diffuser. Slightly detached from the wall, the sconce projects a subtle halo of light, as if the piece were gently floating. The irregular surface of the droplets casts intricate shadows, creating a luminous lace that animates the surrounding space with quiet strangeness. Balancing density and fragility, opacity and glow, the Gravity Sconce transforms bronze into a vessel of light, a sculptural object that feels both ancient and alive. 2022.
