James Kendall Higgins is a Southern California artist whose painting and sculptural practice explores the psychological impact of surface and abstraction. Drawing from the visual language of mid-century abstract painting, his work investigates the delicate tension between looking and truly seeing, using materials such as silver emulsion to layer pigment and texture while subtly obscuring the viewer’s reflection. His works have been exhibited across galleries, design showrooms, and private commissions, with pieces held in both residential and corporate collections. Bridging the white cube of gallery spaces with domestic interiors, Higgins creates site-responsive works that actively engage with and transform the environments they inhabit.
